AWAA Steering Committee Meeting Minutes

April 7, 2010 @ Coffee to a Tea w/Sugar

Meeting was called to order at 4:40. In attendance were Nichole DeMent, Glenda Weibel, Pam Lund, Susan Miller, Hans Westphal, Ben Brackin, Tracy Cilona and Marilyn Ullin.

There was no budget report for the month, but Pam estimates our balance at $3,350.

Marilyn reported that all venues were occupied through May. Tracy, who will replace Marilyn as the new Venue Chair was present so that Marilyn could handover the Venue and Portfolio books. Thanks to Marilyn for three years of service and also to Tracy for stepping in as a new member.

Hans reported that he's received materials for the Alki Art Fair, July 24-25, and its t-shirt contest, which has been won the last two years by AWAA members Patri and Tatyana. Due to only two members participating last year, Hans is going to send out an email to see if anyone is interested and would also serve as chair for this event. Without substanial member interest, the Steering Committee does not feel it worthwhile to invest over $100 to participate. Registration is due by the end of April.

Nichole reported that because of her trip to Europe, she will be unable to lead the May meeting on digital photography, so this meeting idea is postponed. Instead, Kaylee McAvoy, a past intern for Liz Simpson, will provide information on contemporary framing techniques and new ways to show and install work at shows. This is a timely topic, with the Group Show just around the corner. Glenda volunteered to help Nichole set up the space for the ikebana presentation on Monday.

The annual election will take place at the May meeting. Currently, Patri O'Connor has agreed to run as co-chair, Toshi Esumi as webmaster (Tatyana and Pam have offered to assist) and Tracy Cilona as Venue Chair. We are still seeking a replacement for Carol Anderson, who resigned last month as secretary. Susan will send out an email seeking candidates for that position, as well as announce the opening at the Monday meeting.

Nichole reported that she received 30-35 signed contracts for the Group Show. The deadline for submitting images for the postcard has been extended to April 14. The group wants to have a show catalog again this year, with a budget equal to or less than last year's $650. Marilyn suggested using CreateSpace, and Ben will follow up on that idea, with Marilyn indicating print on demand runs about $3.65+ tax per catalog.

The Steering Committe agreed to move the Art|Brew meeting this Monday to Coffee to a Tea, as it provides cheaper food/drink options, as well as a space that is quieter and lighter. Pam said that we may be able to return to her office space for some gatherings. Her office worked out very well for the well-attended meeting to discuss show art on March 22.

Meeting was adjourned at 5:20pm.
