AWAA STEERING COMMITTEE MINUTES
The AWAA Steering Committee met on Wednesday, December 9th at Coffee to a Tea.
The meeting started at 4:30p.m. In attendance were: Nichole DeMent, Stephen Rock, Ben Brackin, Susan Miller, Hans Westphal, Carol Anderson, Pam Lund, Marilyn Ullin, and Glenda Weibel.
MINUTES: The November minutes were approved as printed on the AWAA website.
TREASURE'S REPORT: Balance is $3,143.53.
VENUES:
- Coffee at the Heights is no longer one of our venues.
- It was decided to submit application for having AWAA be considered to show at the City Hall Galleries. David Robinson, Ben Brackin, and Hans Westphal have volunteered to submit application for the January 5th deadline. Artwork from the "Puppies and Ice Cream" show, will represent our proposal/theme. The existing catalog from the show helps fulfill the submission requirements. The January 5th submission must include 15 pieces of art. These will be chosen from digital images Nichole has on file, mainly from the 2009 group show. Artists of those works will be contacted prior to submission to verify the work is still available and will be given the option to opt out. The 15 pieces are just for the submission; if our proposal is accepted by the city, more works will be included in the actual exhibition.
MEMBERSHIP: Stephen Rock shared an attractive postcard that may be used as a membership advertisement. The cards could be placed on the information rack in the lobby of ArtsWest. The 2010 membership drive advertisement card could also be placed at our venues for people interested in joining AWAA. Also, it is important that all our membership literature be fresh and up-to-date.
THANK YOUS:
- Thank you Ada and Bill for hosting our holiday party. A good time was had by all.
- Thank you again, Dori for all your hard work and dedication as chairperson of the program committee.
PROGRAMS:
- January: brainstorm "next step" options from the November general meeting presentation from Deborah Paine. We need all members to voice how AWAA should move forward. What projects would you like to see AWAA participate? What agenda's would you like at the monthly meetings? What is our 2010 plan in terms of raising money to keep AWAA thriving? Are there community projects that we can be a part of? Also in January, we will decide on the logo for the group show DISCONNECTED. Please bring you submissions.
- February: Ben Brackin will lead the group in stenciling our group show logo DISCONNECTED on t-shirts.
- March: Critique of artwork for group show.
- April: AWAA goes Zen with a demonstration by an Ikebana art master.
- TBA: Patricia Ridenour, photographer, is working on a proposal for a mulit-session class on "How to Photograph Your Artwork". This class might be held at Photo Center Northwest and available to AWAA members. Watch for announcement.
Meeting was adjourned at 5:42 pm.
